Helllo and thank you so much for your informative blog about Catholicism in Britain. Not sure what we'd do without you, but God would find a way! :)

Having seen many of the historical sites in Britain, to incldue the famous cathedrals and abbeys now under the control of the National Trust and English Heritage, I'm curious if you could recommend a thumbnail sketch of a Catholic tour of just England for a week's time. Naturally, it would include Tyburn, Westminster Cathedral, Walsingham, and the Littlemore sites. But what else?

Thanks for any insight and all the very best!

JMJ,

Mary

I honestly can't give a "thumbnail sketch". It depends where you are planning to be in Britain, and what transport you have. Walsingham cannot be reached by rail (nearest station is Kings Lynn, some distance away) ). Other places? Ruined abbeys: Riveaulx, Jervaulx, Easby...thay are in Yorkshire. But Waverley is in Surrey... and that's only to mention 4 abbeys and there are so many, many more... Glastonbury, Tintern...

Then there's York - the Minster, and then Margaret Clitheroe's house in The Shambles. Then Birmingham and the Oratory. Boscobel and the Royal Oak. Priest holes there, too, and also at Ufton Court near Reading. But I've barely started. Britain can't be done in a thumbnail. I've only mentioned England. There's Scotland, Wales...

Try looking up all the places I've mentioned on the internet. Then look up various English, Scottish and Welsh saints...and follow up the places where they lived, worked, or were martyred. Any any ancient cathedral - Durham, Hereford, Wells - is worth a long visit.
