I like your contrast between the England of Miss Marple and the England of Miss Markle! Sadly I don't think the latter's baptism will influence the average man/woman in the street today at all if they even noticed it had happened.

I read that Meghan Markle's first husband was Jewish, so if that is so and neither of them were baptized, I think it would only be a natural marriage. From what I remember about annulments, such a marriage could be annulled, if that is the correct term in such a case, if one of them became Christian and the other partner did not want to stay together. I also read that the Archbishop of Canterbury had "looked into the matter," and so the Queen had accepted his decision. I think we should assume that all is well, since we don't have all the facts, and it is really none of our business. I wish them well.
